Texting is Sexting

Most of you already know about the "Text Scandal" with former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick who was sentenced to jail and given a large fine. His top aid Christina Betty has now been charged and will spend 120 day in county jail. Back in January 2008 the Associated Press released romantic text messages between the two married former school mates. Beatty and Kilpatrick, both 38, were charged with lying about their affair under oath during a 2007 civil trial on claims that two police officers were punished for investigating alleged wrongdoing in the mayor's inner circle.

Kilpatrick's controversies started years before this. It was reported that a wild party allegedly occurred in the fall of 2002, involving strippers at the official residence of the mayor, the city-owned Manoogian Mansion. It is alleged by former members of the mayor's Executive Protection Unit that the mayor's wife, Carlita Kilpatrick, came home unexpectedly and upon discovering Kwame with the strippers began to attack one of the women. The stripper Tamara Greene (Strawberry) was later found shot in her boyfriends car.

Mariah Gets a Milli

It’s being reported that Mariah Carey probably had the best New Years out of any other celebrity we know. Not only was she vacationing in St. Barts with hubby Nick Cannon and close friends, she also got paid $1 million to sing just four songs at a New Year's Eve party. Libyan dictator Colonal Gaddafi's son Saif paid the lump sum for Mimi to perform at Nikki Beach Club on the Caribbean island of St Barts.

Penelope Cruz in Oscar

The 2009 award season officially kicked off in NYC last night. Penelope Cruz (in Oscar de la Renta, and Christian Louboutin Platform shoes) led the list of winners at the 2008 New York Film Critic's Circle Awards, held at New York City's Strata. The Vicky Christina Barcelona star—who is also nominated for a Golden Globe—picked up the award for Best Supporting Actress at the annual ceremony.

Bride Wars Movie New York Premier

Last night was the New York movie premier for Bride Wars (in theaters January 9, 2009), and the movie starlets did not disappoint. Hathaway opted for a simple and chic black suit from Band of Outsiders, and Hudson was dressed to the nines in Oscar de la Renta. Hathaway's 'do was a retro throwback to the 1960s, pulled high and back off her face with a velvet headband and cascading down her shoulders, while Hudson's hairstylist created a twisty braid and an almost 1970s Farrah-like face frame of swept-back sides.

What's Beef?

Apparently two of our favorite Diva's are in a battle of words. Rumor has it, in a recent interview Beyonce said that "Joe Jackson used his kids to get out of their poor situation", while trying to defend Poppa Knowles, saying that her family was already upper middle class and her dad is nothing like Joe. Well, word got back to Janet and she's not to happy about it. Rumor is she plans on having a few words with Sasha Fierce, which is who she might meet if she steps to B. I don't know, Janet has been with Jermaine for a minute, we all know she's got a little ghetto in her.

Cover Up or Shut Up

My favorite girl Rihanna has agreed to cover those gams while performing in Malaysia. According to New York Magazine the Malaysian government has regulations that stipulate female performers must cover themselves from the top of the chest, shoulders included, to the knees. This is a problem the Pussycat Dolls faced in 2006, when they decided to perform anyway in their little to nothing clothing, and were fine $3,000.00.

Vuitton Celebrates Stephen Sprouse

In admiration of late fashion designer Stephen Sprouse, Louis Vuitton’s creative director Marc Jacobs will be revisiting his previous 2001 collaboration with Sprouse as inspiration for a 2009 collection. The new looks of accessories and ready-to-wear garments combine Sprouse-styled graffiti and rose motifs alongside Jacobs designs of course. Keeping in theme, the new issue of Harper’s Bazaar will feature Marc Jacobs covered in Sprouse artwork with photography shot by Terry Richardson.

The collection will launch in its entirety at the SoHo boutique on Thursday. The complete worldwide launch will follow on Feb. 2, though the Rose pieces will be available at Louis Vuitton stores worldwide starting Friday.

For the launch, the luxury goods company is also creating two limited edition pieces, which will only be available at the SoHo location: a Stephen Sprouse graffiti skateboard replete with a hard case monogram skateboard trunk (above center), and a Stephen Sprouse “Roses” T-shirt. The company hopes to sell three graffiti skateboards with trunks for $8,250 each, and 70 T-shirts for $250 each.

Stephen Sprouse (pictured on the left) was known as the punk glamour god. He became known in the Eighties for his graffiti art and fashion designs. In 2001, Vuitton artistic director Marc Jacobs collaborated with Sprouse and created an instant must-have accessories collection with the Monogram Graffiti collection. Sprouse died in 2004, and Vuitton made its first donation to the fund in 2006 when Jacobs created a scarf in Sprouse’s honor, using one of the collaboration’s leopard prints.

The Founder of Movado Dies

Gedalio “Gerry” Grinberg, founder and chairman of Movado Group Inc., the Paramus, N.J.-based watch company, died Sunday in New York at age 77. The company didn't reveal a specific cause of death, but noted it was of natural causes.

The native Cuban, who was instrumental in turning Americans on to luxury timepieces starting in the Sixties with brands such as Corum, Piaget and Omega, had announced plans last fall to step down from his post Jan. 31. His son, Efraim, will take on the role of chairman, while continuing on as president and chief executive officer of the firm, which has annual sales of $560 million.

Daddy's Girls

The new MTV reality series featuring Angela and Vanessa Simmons premiered last night. Finally, we get to see young African American women featured on MTV and not making a fool of themselves... Ahem (Flavor of Love). Last nights show had a few highlights, Angela talked about her brake-up with TK and how she wanted to wait until she got married to have sex but, TK wasn't haven't it (you have to respect her for that), Alyica (neighbor/friend) had the Louis Vuitton bag featured in last weeks "Item of the Day" post, and it looks like the girls have found an apartment in the same building that once held the stars of the "Hills". Although, I think the blind date for Angela was just part of (fake) reality, the show has a certain quality about it. Tune in Mondays, at 10:30 p.m and for more information go to

The City

The City premiered December 29th on MTV featuring Whitney Port from "The Hills" making her move from L.A. to NY to take on a new career at Diane von Furstenberg. The show is full of characters that all have amazing jobs from Musicians, Buyer for Bergdorf, and Socialites. Although, Whitney is a little boring, characters like Olivia Palermo make things more exciting. Olivia is a "Social", Upper Eastsider (so Blair Waldorf) and Whitney's co-worker at DVF. Olivia is also a family friends with Manolo Blahnik, she wears amazing clothes, and hangs with the elite crowd (with the likes of Anne Wintour's son). Whitney also has a love interest in New York, Jay he's a Musician from Australia and the Justin Bobby of this show. Then, there's Erin, Whitney's friend from NYU. The show has Whitney caught between the "Downtown Crowd" and the "Rich High- Society" brats. Watch every week as the clothes, restaurants, and relationships get better and better each episode.
