Daddy's Girls

The new MTV reality series featuring Angela and Vanessa Simmons premiered last night. Finally, we get to see young African American women featured on MTV and not making a fool of themselves... Ahem (Flavor of Love). Last nights show had a few highlights, Angela talked about her brake-up with TK and how she wanted to wait until she got married to have sex but, TK wasn't haven't it (you have to respect her for that), Alyica (neighbor/friend) had the Louis Vuitton bag featured in last weeks "Item of the Day" post, and it looks like the girls have found an apartment in the same building that once held the stars of the "Hills". Although, I think the blind date for Angela was just part of (fake) reality, the show has a certain quality about it. Tune in Mondays, at 10:30 p.m and for more information go to

The City

The City premiered December 29th on MTV featuring Whitney Port from "The Hills" making her move from L.A. to NY to take on a new career at Diane von Furstenberg. The show is full of characters that all have amazing jobs from Musicians, Buyer for Bergdorf, and Socialites. Although, Whitney is a little boring, characters like Olivia Palermo make things more exciting. Olivia is a "Social", Upper Eastsider (so Blair Waldorf) and Whitney's co-worker at DVF. Olivia is also a family friends with Manolo Blahnik, she wears amazing clothes, and hangs with the elite crowd (with the likes of Anne Wintour's son). Whitney also has a love interest in New York, Jay he's a Musician from Australia and the Justin Bobby of this show. Then, there's Erin, Whitney's friend from NYU. The show has Whitney caught between the "Downtown Crowd" and the "Rich High- Society" brats. Watch every week as the clothes, restaurants, and relationships get better and better each episode. Rachel Zoe Back for Season 2 "I Die"

L.A. Time has confirmed, one of my other guilty pleasures "The Rachel Zoe Project" has indeed been picked up for season 2. Who didn't love it, with celebs popping up at her door, her team going hay-wire and some of the most beautiful clothes you have ever put your eyes on in one show. Rachel's gobs of fur and huge accessories, how could one not love it? Although, Zoe is speculated to have been the cause of some of Hollywood's "It" girls becoming rail thin, I think she's still so fab. The first season showed she's a real person and I would work for Zoe in a heart beat ( I am available Rachel, call me Taylor won't make me cry). All I can say is tune in, if you're into fashion this won't be a let down. Filming has already begun for the show.

Ahead of the Game: Pre-Fall Collections 2009

Fashion isn't just about spring and fall. Pre-collections have increasingly become a force in the industry. Here's a look at some pre-fall 2009 collections from the designers we all know and love.

REEM ACRA: “It’s all about understated luxury,” said the designer, and, with the rich-looking beadwork on these dresses, no jewelry will be required.

NARCISO RODRIQUEZ: Narciso Rodriguez infused his collages into bold prints on silk dresses and tops, creating a layered effect.

BADGLEY MISCHKA: According to Mark Badgley and James Mischka, pre-fall is about “beautiful, happy clothes ­— nothing serious,” and with that in mind, they turned out a lineup of fanciful gowns and youthful cocktail dresses with plenty of embellishments, feathers and frayed ruffles.

DIANE VON FURSTENBERG: It’s a jungle out there, or, as Diane von Furstenberg said of her pre-fall collection, an urban jungle.

MONIQUE LHUILLIER: Her frothy frocks and dramatic gowns would make any starlet stand out.

OSCAR DE LA RENTA: Good times and bad, one can always count on Oscar de la Renta to deliver real clothes, the kind that have at least a prayer of being purchased and worn.

The Super's Are Back

Oh, how we've missed them (did they ever really leave?), the Supermodels that is. Christy Turlington is on the cover of January's W magazine. With a photo spread inside, shot by photographer Mario Sorrenti, she still has it. If you're a magazine lover (like myself) you probably have noticed over the past two or three years more and more of "The Supers" in major ads and covers. Lisa Evandelista for Prada, Naomi Campbell for YSL, Claudia Schiffer for Chanel. Why are magazine editors and designers still going for the Tried and True? Personally, I am tired of actresses and singer on the covers. Lets get back to what matters the most "The Fashion", and lets face it, no one can do it like "The Supers". They ran the 90's and we still love them today. When they appear in ads or covers they bring a certain nostalgia and class that rings "Professional Model" not "I got the gig because I am a skinny British/Russian/German girl" but someone that knows how to work the camera. These girls are in their late 30's and 40's and still giving Giselle, Kate, and Agyness a run. Who said models don't have a career after 30? They must haven't heard of "The Supers".

Designer of the Month: JOLIBE

JOLIBE

I first came across this designer while watching an episode of Stylista on CW. In episode 6 "Fashion 101" each team had to produce a fashion show for a new up-and-coming designer. Joel Diaz and Christina LaPens (the team behind Jolibe) caught my attention, with very well constructed and oddly shaped pieces, as well and the their use of fabrics. While Joel has studied fashion at Parson School of Design and worked with Helmut Lang, his partner Christina is a photographer and art director. IN THE KNOW-French Vogue editor Carine Roitfeld

Carine Roitfeld was approached by Conde Nast to edit French Vogue in 2001, and has been the editor-in-chief of French Vogue for the past eight years.

Known as the anti-Anna, Roitfeld (age 54) remade French Vogue in her own image, which is to say svelte, tough, luxurious, and wholeheartedly in love with dangling-cigarette, bare-chested fashion. So much of the fashion world is about negotiating insecurity—exploiting it enough to make you want to buy things, but still nurturing, to keep you close. But Carine Roitfeld is like the industry’s X factor: Fashion does not, could not, make her insecure. Fashion is the place in the world where Roitfeld is most comfortable and at home. Because of this, Roitfeld’s French Vogue is the polar opposite of most American fashion magazines. It is unconcerned with making fashion wearable or accessible to its readers. It is not inclusive: There is no advice on how to dress if you’re shaped like a pear or about to turn 50.

In Roitfeld’s world, models are never too skinny, diamonds are never too expensive. Covers are not devoted to whichever film star has a blockbuster to promote, but primarily to models—when Roitfeld and Bruce Weber happened upon (former “Look Book” subject) André J., a black transvestite with an Afro, incredible legs, and an Amish-style chinstrap beard, they put him in a minidress and on the cover.

In April 2006, there were rumors that Roitfeld was being approached by Hearst Corporation to take over Glenda Bailey's editor-in-chief position at U.S. Harpers Bazaar.

Is That Engagement I Hear?

Rumor has it Chris B. 19 and Rihanna 20 could possibly be headed down the aisle. It's been reported that Chris popped the question on New Years and Ri rocked her new bling while performing at 02 in London. (In my opinion they need to chill out, at 19 and 20 this is a disaster waiting to happen. Enjoy being young and on top on the world.)
