Jay-Z Performs Concert On The Eve of Change

The night before Barack Obama's presidential ceremony takes place, a party known as "In Concert on the Eve of Change" will be held with a special live performance from Jay-Z. The show will be held at the Warner Theater with a live band accompanying Jay-Z's on-stage appearance. And, we know wifey will be in-tow with the Jigga man. Are the Girls Back for A Sequel?

Rumor has it, all 4 stars of Sex and the City are signed on for the sequel. In recent interview SATC famed stylist Pat Fields says, that though she does believe the flick will happen, based on the confirmation she's received from King, she has yet to receive any 'official' information. According to Fields, king has not yet written the script, which will take at least a year and then there's filming. Although it might not be ready in 09, I do believe a sequel is coming.

Mizrahi's New Claiborne Line

Count Isaac Mizrahi among those who have declared 2009 as a time for change. After six successful years hitting the affordable fashion mark at Target, Mizrahi is on to Liz Claiborne, a company anxious for a design bull’s-eye. It’s been nearly a year since Claiborne revealed plans to install Mizrahi as creative director. Thanks to his vault like contract with Target, which expired at the end of last year, the designer was barred from designing for anyone. Isaac will be missed from the Target racks. Oscar de la Renta: A Recession Phenomenon

Financial failure in the fashion industry has been the talk about town recently. With February’s Fashion Week just around the corner, more and more designers are backing down from the tents, in hopes of recovering from the economic crisis continuing over from 2008. Despite the fact that big names like Vera Wang and Betsey Johnson have been monetarily beat to a pulp, Oscar de la Renta has been doing well…quite well. It seems as if the economic times have had no effect on de la Renta, as he has added a show during Fashion Week. The designer will hold two shows, one at 1pm and the other at 2pm on February 18th, separate venues for retailers and the press. Oscar de la Renta even told Fashion Week Daily that 2008 was a good year for him (he may be the only one…) and while many designers had to lay off workers, he actually added 15 employees to the company! On top of that, de la Renta stated that the last three months were successful. Big up’s to de la Renta for retaining success, even during these tough times.

Two More Designers Bow Out of Fashion Week

And then there were … two less. Vera Wang, Betsey Johnson, and Carmen Marc Valvo have opted out of Bryant Park runway shows, and now Monique Lhuillier (Spring 2009 dress shown above) and Naeem Khan have decided to do the same in favor of presentations. Paul Wilmot, whose PR firm represents both designers, said the moves aren't even about saving a quick buck. In fact, Wilmot said the designers might not spend any less money. Apparently they just want to "shake things up a bit." Presentations could be a better sales strategy. But are they the future while runway shows merely walk the path to Obsolete Park? As Cathy Horyn noted a while back, shows aren't even necessary these days. Anyone can look at the clothes online minutes after they end, and the only function the shows seem to serve is to preserve the egos of the people with the good seats (i.e., that episode of the Real Housewives of New York where Jill storms out of the tents because Ramona got a front-row seat while she got a second-row seat). So bring on the presentations and force the important people to mingle with the lowly bloggers like us. Come fall 2009, everyone's front row!

Sienna Miller to Show Twenty8Twelve at London Fashion Week

Once you have a successful film career, high-profile relationships and a successful clothing line, what’s left to do? Have a runway show, of course! Sienna Miller and sister Savannah are gearing up to show their popular fashion line Twenty8Twelve at London’s Fashion Week on Febraury 22nd. The presentation of the Fall/Winter 2009 will be the first time that the Miller sisters have taken their line of feminine dresses, tailored jackets and edgy accessories to the catwalk, and we’re already wondering what star pals we might spot in that front row! Watch out, Olsens — will Sienna and Savannah be next year’s designers of the year?
