SJP Graces the March 2009 Harper's Bazaar

Everyone's favorite native New Yorker, Sarah Jessica Parker, graces the March 2009 cover of my favorite fashion mag Harper's Bazaar US. On the cover she is wearing a stunning white Versace gown.

On fashion SJP says: "I don’t have the Carrie Bradshaw passion and devotion to it, but I would much prefer that life would allow for a beautiful shoe all day long. To stand in Mr. de la Renta’s atelier and have him build a dress on you, that is amazing."

Why Victoria Is So Posh

Victoria took her sons to the Century City Mall before heading to her BFF Kate Beckinsale's daughters birthday party. She was dressed in - what is fast becoming her uniform - a black strapless dress from her own collection, YSL Trib Two pumps, and carrying a white Valextra bag. Valextra is a Milan-based luxury leather goods company, who make exquisite bags, clutches, luggage and office stationary.

Victoria's bag is part of the S handbag line, which come in 3 different sizes. So, what makes this bag so special, that the largest celebrity Hermes collector would choose it? Well Valextra is often compared to Hermes and Louis Vuitton in terms of workmanship. You should recognize a Valextra from afar, despite it not having any logos printed on the outside. The workmanship and luxurious materials used sets it apart from the others.

For more on Valextra visit http://www.valextra.it/maineng.html

Atlantic Records Group Promotes Julie Greenwald

For those of you that know the heavy hitters in the music industry, then you would know Julie Greenwald. Craig Kallman, Chairman and CEO of The Atlantic Records Group, today announced that Julie Greenwald (age 38) has been promoted to Chairman and Chief Operating Officer. The two executives will expand their successful partnership that, among other achievements, has seen Atlantic reach the industry's No. 1 label position in the U.S. in 2008 based on strong performances from Kid Rock, T.I., Jason Mraz, Plies, Lupe Fiasco and the soundtrack to the film "Twilight." In addition to Atlantic's artist successes, a November 2008 New York Times story credited Kallman and Greenwald's progressive digital strategies for Atlantic Records becoming the first major label to achieve more than 50% of U.S. recorded music sales from digital products. Since 2004, Greenwald has served as President of the Atlantic Records Group.

A few facts about Julie: The music maven has been on her grind ever since she joined Def Jam Records as the personal assistant to Lyor Cohen, head of the hip-hop label at the time. She flexed her work ethic and moved up to executive vice president of what became Universal Music's Island Def Jam Group before she turned 30.

It’s refreshing to see women doing BIG things!

DRAMA: Etta James Pissed at Beyonce

Remember a few months ago when Etta James had some nice things to say about Beyoncé's portrayal of her in "Cadillac Records"? Well, according to sources Etta James is pissed with Beyonce for singing At Last at the Presidential inauguration. James unleashed a verbal beat-down on B last week during a concert in which she threatened to whip the "Single Ladies" singer's butt. Comical! Here is the audio of Etta James http://www.aolcdn.com/tmz_audio/020409_etta_james.mp3

UPDATE: In a telephone interview to The Press Enterprise yesterday morning, Etta James brushed off her comments about Beyonce as just a joke explaining “I’m a comedian besides a singer. I wasn’t doing it to be hateful. I think I’m funny and she’s not the only one I’ll say something about.” James went on to say that she takes a lot of pride her signature song, and would have liked to have an opportunity to sing the song at the inaugural ball, where BeyoncĂ© performed “She got up there and sang it and didn’t give me a chance to sing ‘At Last’.”

The End Of An Era: Bryant Park

Yes, it's the end of an era. Fashion week will be officially moved to the Lincoln Center in September 2010. The Center offers almost a 25 percent increase in square footage from it home at Bryant Park. Which make me wonder, with so many designers pulling out from fashion week this year because of the countries financial state, is the 25 percent increase needed? Any who, the classy, centrally located Lincoln Center excited Mayor Bloomberg and Anna Wintour saying “We had obviously worn out our welcome at Bryant Park, so it’s very exciting to be going to someplace where they want us,” she told WWD. Bergdorf senior V.P. Linda Fargo agreed, noting, “Lincoln Center may actually prove to be easier to traverse between shows, as Chelsea and the West Side are on the same axis” Having never been to fashion week I was looking forward to one day sitting under the tent at Bryant Park, I guess the whole idea saddens me.

Grammy News

Music's biggest night just keeps getting bigger. The 51st annual Grammy Awards, which air this Sunday, February 5 on CBS, at 8pm, have added yet another round of performers to the roster: Kanye West will appear with Estelle (most likely for their Song of the Year nominee "American Boy"). Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift are teaming up. Adele, Chris Brown and Sugarland have been added to the list. And there will be a tribute to legendary Motown group the Four Tops featuring Jamie Foxx, Ne-Yo and original last living original member, Duke Fakir.

The latest additions join a list that already included Jennifer Hudson, the Jonas Brothers, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Radiohead, Rihanna, T.I. with Justin Timberlake, U2, Carrie Underwood, Kid Rock, Paul McCartney with special guest drummer Dave Grohl, Kenny Chesney and Robert Plant & Alison Krauss. The show will also feature a solo performance from Lil Wayne, the night's most nominated artist, and he's expected to throw down his verse on T.I.'s "Swagga Like Us," alongside Jay-Z, Tip and Kanye.

First Lady O Knockoff Dresses Hit Stores In April

ABS by Allen Schwartz is working really hard to have his version of the Jason Wu One-shoulder dress and the Isabel Toledo (Easter dress) ensemble in stores by April. The dresses will be priced between $200.00 and $300.00 and the Toledo dress will be available in ivory instead of lemongrass. Being a church going women and being in church since I was a child, the Toledo dress just doesn't amaze me. I've seen it a million times and if critic think that's something then they should visit a black church on Easter Sunday, Allen Schwartz could have his whole spring 09 collection in one visit.

Barney's Shipment In Loehmann's

Loehmann's apparently got a huge shipment of shoes from Barneys New York, I am not sure if this is for all Loehmann but it's worth a try. Read Below what was reported in New York Magazine:

"We popped by Loehmann's while bargain-hunting this weekend, and left with bruises. Two women ran us over because of the store's newest stock — a huge shipment from the shoe floor at Barneys New York (the shoeboxes actually had Barneys stickers). We spotted Prada wedges and Christian Louboutin pumps on one rack and Manolo Blahnik strappy sandals and Barneys Co-Op chunky heels on another. Miu Miu, Jil Sander, and Costume National lined the shelves, too. Patent navy flats by Lanvin are $199, and suede calf bootees by Marc Jacobs are $157. Both the Chelsea and Upper West Side locations received shipments two weeks ago, and selection is still aplenty. Consider it good practice for the actual Barneys Warehouse Sale, which starts on Thursday, February 12. Between the economy and the discounts, you may as well start sharpening your claws right now"

Zoe and Richie BFF's Again

BFF's Rachel Zoe hosted a bash Thursday night celebrating hair colorist Tracey Cunningham joining forces with hairstylist and makeup artist Byron Williams at their namesake Beverly Hills salon. After greeting guests including Rose McGowan, Natasha Henstridge, Nicky Hilton, Jordana Brewster, Tori Spelling, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Richie. Richie created the biggest stir of the evening when she publicly put to rest any dispute between her and Zoe by hugging it out with the stylist in front of cameras rolling for Bravo’s “The Rachel Zoe Project.” When speaking about her hectic schedule, Zoe said she was crazed splitting time between dressing celebrities, including Anne Hathaway, for the award season circus and trying to check out the latest on the fashion show circuit. “It is really tricky at work because they made the award shows so early,” she complained. “It has been hard to find those dresses that haven’t been worn or shot before.”

MTV’s “House of Style”

The New York Post is reporting that MTV’s House of Style will be returning to the airwaves. They hope to recruit Bar Refaeli or Chanel Iman to fill Cindy Crawford’s chunky, early ’90s shoes. Hm, wasn’t Cindy really the main reason people watched at first?

Badu Welcomes a New Baby Girl

E. Badu and boyfriend of three year Jay Electronica welcomed their new baby girl yesterday. Badu didn't keep her fans waiting, while letting them know when her contractions were just 3 minutes apart and then confirmed the birth. Congrats, but is it just me or do homeboy look a little ashy.... I mean lick your lips or something.

Was J-Hud Lip Syncing?

J-Hud preformed the national anthem at last night game, and although it was quite good there are reports that she was lip synicing. Here's what the pre-game show producer had to say.

"Although entertainers can perform live, Minor [the pre-game show producer] insisted that Hudson and Faith Hill, who sang “America the Beautiful” before the national anthem, use the tracks the NFL requires them to submit a week before the game.“That’s the right way to do it,” Minor said. “There’s too many variables to go live. I would never recommend any artist go live because the slightest glitch would devastate the performance.”
