Gone Too Soon:Michael Joseph Jackson (1958-2009)

On June 25, 2009, Jackson collapsed at a rented home in Holmby Hills in Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by his personal physician weren't successful. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to a 911 call at 12:21 pm (PDT), arriving nine minutes later. Jackson was reportedly not breathing and CPR was performed. Resuscitation efforts continued both en route to the UCLA Medical Center, and after arrival at approximately 1:14 pm, for another hour. He was noted to have already been in cardiac arrest by the paramedics who attended his house. A source inside the hospital told us there was "absolute chaos" after Jackson arrived. People who were with the singer were screaming, "You've got to save him! You've got to save him!"Jackson was pronounced dead at about 2:26 pm local time. The cause of death is currently believed to be cardiac arrest.

Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture. Five of Jackson's solo albums – "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records, a Sony Music label – are among the top-sellers of all time. During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time (over 50 million copies sold). Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.
